Liposuction in Brisbane

Liposculpture

Liposuction is a popular procedure. It is performed to permanently remove fatty tissue in subcutaneous areas not responding to diet and exercise. These areas can include the thighs, abdomen, knees and neck (under the chin), buttocks. Dr. Wong has a special interest in male gynaecomastia (male breast).

Liposuction is most successful in people with good skin tone who have localised fatty deposits. It is not a treatment for obesity.

To maintain safety during the procedure, there is a limit on how much fat can be removed during each session (to prevent excessive loss of fluid). A variety of factors can affect the result: physical condition, genetic makeup, exercise, smoking, alcohol intake and skin elasticity.

The surgeon makes a small discreet opening in the areas to be treated. A cannula with a blunt tip is inserted into this small opening. Tumescent fluid is infused and both the tumescent fluid and fatty tissue are subsequently removed assisted by a suction machine. The procedure may take an hour or more, depending on the size of the areas treated. There will be some swelling and bruising following the procedure. Wound infection is rare. You will need to wear a special garment for a few weeks to help reduce swelling and support the area during the healing process and to assist in retraction of the skin. Sutures (if any) will be removed in about 7 days.

Results are recognisable almost immediately and will continue to improve as swelling subsides. Most people are up and walking the same day after the surgery. Increase activity gently over 2-4 weeks. You may return to work in the office about 4-5 days after the operation (14 days for active employment). Older patients with reduced skin elasticity may not achieve the same results as younger patients with tight skin. Liposuction carries a risk for individuals with medical problems such as diabetes, heart or lung disease, poor circulation and those who have had surgery near the area to be contoured. Have a realistic expectation of what the procedure can do for you.

Cost:  1 area $2750; 2 areas $4400; 3 areas from $6000.  As a rough guide, both outer thighs would be considered one (1) region and both inner thighs as second (2nd) region; the lower abdomen (below umbilicus) as 1 region and upper abdomen as second (2nd) region.  Post Operative garments from $85 – $165 (depending on types of compressive garments eg. lipo-pants or full body compressive suits).  Please make an appointment with Dr Wong for exact price.

Lipolysis (Fat dissolve Injections)

Injection Lipolysis provides an alternative treatment for smaller collections of fat where surgery is not an option. It is a quick and easy treatment with some swelling, redness and tenderness afterwards, with results seen in 6 to 8 weeks.

PPC, Phosphatidylcholine (derived from soy) is injected into the superficial fat layers and is responsible for breaking the membrane of the fat cell. The triglycerides (fats) stored within the cell are then released and transported away from the area via the blood stream to the liver where they are processed. By reducing the number of fat cells in a particular area the amount of fat stored in that area is also reduced. Hence Lipodissolve can be used to reduce small areas of fat (eg chins and necks) or reduce larger areas that are disproportionate compared to other areas, or to smooth out irregularities.

After Lipolysis injections we encourage patients to continue their healthy exercise and diet regimes.  Cost of Lipolysis from $450 to $900 per treatment (depending on area to be treated).
