Dermal fillers are commonly used to correct loss of volume, static deep wrinkles, folds and lines that cannot be corrected with muscle relaxant treatment alone. It is commonly used in addition to muscle relaxants (the other type of anti wrinkle injections). Our clinic commonly use non permanent skin fillers as the risks of side effects are less. However more longer lasting fillers are available on request including one type that lasts up to 5 years, platelet rich plasma and collagen stimulants (which is a facial volumiser and PBS approved for HIV patients to correct fat atrophy "hollowness" in the face). Areas that can be treated with dermal fillers include lip, jowls, tear trough (dark circle under eye region), nasolabial region, marionette areas as well as deeper wrinkles not corrected after anti-wrinkle injections. Some of the areas to be treated particularly around the eyes require special skills and care. Only highly trained cosmetic doctors perform injections in our clinic. Depending on the site of injection, a nerve block may be required. Topical anaesthestic cream is often useful to reduce discomfort during procedure.
