Blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelid surgery, is a procedure where the excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids are removed in order to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes, resulting in a more youthful looking face overall.

Excessive skin is treated by surgical excision and if there is also excessive fat, this can be removed simultaneously. The incisions are made in the creases as inconspicously as possible and closed with very fine sutures.

Blepharoplasty can be performed using local anaesthetic with sedation. Expect mild initial bruising and swelling in the first few days. Incisions are placed so that they are not normally noticeable, except on very close inspection. The scars will fade and soften to very thin lines.

In most cases, blepharoplasty is a very rewarding cosmetic procedure for both patients and doctor as some patients have a genetic tendency to have heavy droopy eyelids which make them look tired and older than they actually are.
