Breast Augmentation or Enlargement Surgery is a procedure that involves the placement of breast implants to enhance breast size. The operation is now a common procedure offering a wide choice in breast implant size, shape, composition and placement with a natural looking cleavage. The choice of breast implants, size, shape and other features (such as implant projection) will be determined based on your existing breast anatomy, body type and your desired increase in size. Your lifestyle, goals and personal preferences, as well as sound surgical surgical judgements are also determining factors. All breast implants used by our patients are cohesive silicone implants, including the new "Brazilian Implants" by Silimed with a polyurethane foam surface. All implants used are approved by FDA. Brazilian breast implants may reduce the risk of capsular contracture to 1%. Dr. Wong feels the aim of breast implant surgery is not just enlarging the breasts, it must create harmony to enhance the woman's overall shape and balance her figure. Prior to breast implant surgery, there is a lot of thought and planning that goes into designing the placement of the breast implants that will give not only good cleavage but be in proportion with the body. After the breast implant operation there will be some bruising and swelling. Altered sensation in the nipples is uncommon. Breasts implants generally do not interfere with the women's ability to breast feed and is not a hazard during pregnancy. However changes of the body during pregnancy or weight gain may alter the results of any breast implant surgery. Following placement of breast implants, future mammography may be technically more difficult but still able to be performed. In many cases, and ultrasound or MRI of the breast may be suitable.
